The winery celebrates a quarter-century of history, reaffirming its commitment to elegant, fresh wines, its family legacy and winemaking innovation, with new creations paving the way for the years ahead.
Font-rubí, 19 October 2026 — U MES U has celebrated its 25th anniversary, bringing together nearly a hundred guests for an event dedicated to revisiting the project’s origins, reaffirming its winemaking identity and presenting some of the initiatives that will shape its future. The anniversary, which fell in 2025 but was celebrated this year due to scheduling considerations, highlighted the winery’s family legacy, innovation and, above all, the people who have made its journey possible.
Founded in 2000 by Josep Piñol, Josep Antoni Bonell and Carles Esteve, the project was originally launched under the name 1+1=3, a formula symbolising the desire to combine knowledge, experience and effort to achieve results greater than the sum of individual contributions.
In 2020, the brand evolved into U MES U, preserving this philosophy, now expressed through the concept “The Art of Summation”.
Tradition, innovation and the next generation
With family roots in the wine industry stretching back several generations, U MES U has built its identity around freshness, elegance and respect for the unique expression of each grape variety, with a particular commitment to Pinot Noir.
In 2021, the generational transition was formalised, with Josep Oriol and Maria Piñol taking the lead in a new chapter. Josep Oriol heads the winemaking department, with a strong focus on innovation and adapting to climate change, while Maria drives brand growth, commercial development and the consolidation of a team that now comprises more than 25 professionals.
Looking ahead to new developments
During the celebration, the winery also shared some of its latest winemaking initiatives, including the revival of the Marina Rión grape variety, new Sauvignon Blanc wines and experimentation with low-alcohol sparkling wines.
Among the new releases presented were the new 2019 vintage of Caelus, a Gran Reserva Cava made entirely from Pinot Noir, and Brisa, an alcohol-free sparkling wine.
A celebration to remember the past and toast the future
Despite the rain, nearly 100 guests, including institutional representatives, distributors, restaurateurs, customers, collaborators and team members, joined U MES U for a particularly meaningful occasion for the Piñol family and the entire winery team.
The celebration began at Castell de Sant Martí Sarroca with a tasting that invited guests to discover the winery’s winemaking essence through a selection of its base wines. The experience continued with a tasting of new wines still under development, which are expected to reach the market in the coming months.
The celebration then moved to U MES U’s facilities, where a commemorative event brought together memories, reflections and expressions of gratitude, featuring speeches from different generations of the Piñol family.
One of the most moving moments came during the speech by Josep Piñol, co-founder of the winery, who recalled the project’s beginnings and the challenge of starting to bottle and market their own wines.
“It wasn’t an easy step. We felt comfortable among vineyards, tanks and tasting rooms. That was our world. But we also knew that if we truly wanted to understand the entire process, we had to take things one step further”*, he recalled.
Josep Oriol Piñol, head of winemaking, highlighted one of the decisions that has shaped the winery’s identity: choosing to develop its own distinctive style at a time when powerful, concentrated wines with pronounced oak ageing dominated the market.
“We wanted to take a different path. We committed to fresh, elegant and precise wines, both still and sparkling. And that is an idea we have never abandoned”*, he explained, reaffirming a philosophy that continues to guide U MES U’s winemaking.
Finally, Maria Piñol, responsible for brand strategy and commercial development, highlighted the role of the winemaking team in the winery’s international growth, particularly in the Nordic countries, one of its main markets. In these countries, where advertising of alcoholic beverages is heavily regulated, wine quality and consistency are especially important in building trust among distributors and consumers.
“We are fortunate to have a technical team like the one behind U MES U, who approach wine with such passion, commitment and dynamism. (…) It is up to the commercial team to rise to the occasion and support these wines with excellent service, responsiveness and the same care that goes into making them. To present them beautifully. And tell their story even better.”*, she said, acknowledging the people behind the wines.
The three speeches demonstrated how the entrepreneurial spirit of the early days, the constant pursuit of quality and teamwork continue to define the essence of U MES U.
The evening concluded with a dinner prepared by Colmado Catering, accompanied by a live jazz duo, in a relaxed atmosphere that allowed everyone who has contributed to the project’s growth to share memories, reconnect and raise a glass together.
With this celebration, U MES U has not only commemorated 25 years of history but also paid tribute to everyone who has helped build the project. A quarter of a century later, the winery remains true to the philosophy on which it was founded: the belief that great things are achieved summing.
