The Larus Cava from the Rara Avis collection by U MES U has been selected through a blind tasting to be the solidarity cava for 2024-2025 of the Rotary Club of Barcelona. For every bottle sold, €1.5 will be raised to fight against polio. This project was presented on October 24th at Reial Cercle Artístic of Barcelona.
Every year, the Rotary Club of Barcelona chooses, through a blind tasting led by professionals, the Rotary Solidarity Cava. This year’s jury, consisting of oenologist Eva Plazas and sommeliers Toni Albiol and Anna Casabona, selected the Rara Avis Larus Cava from the U MES U Winery as the winner of the XX Rotary Solidarity Cava Contest.
To celebrate, the U MES U Winery is releasing a special edition of the Larus Cava, exclusively for Rotary Club members. The Rotary Foundation is a global organization with over 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries, dedicated to promoting peace, understanding, and goodwill through its commitment to health, education, and the fight against poverty.
For over 20 years, the Rotary Club of Barcelona has been involved in the fight to eradicate polio through this solidarity cava project. With each bottle sold, €1.5 is donated, which helps vaccinate nine children against this devastating disease. Thanks to the efforts of Rotary and other collaborators, more than 2 billion children have already been vaccinated worldwide. However, polio remains a threat in various regions, causing paralysis or death in many children each year. U MES U Winery joins this cause, proud to contribute to the fight for a healthier, polio-free future.
This recognition is not only a reflection of the winery’s quality but also of its commitment to solidarity and social responsibility, inspiring them to keep growing and contributing through various initiatives.
The Rotary Edition of the Cava Rara Avis Larus was exclusively presented on Thursday, October 24th at the Reial Cercle Artístic in Barcelona. The event included representatives from the Rotary Foundation, with Oriol Piñol and Maria Piñol representing the winery’s family, who shared what makes this cava so special: crafted with a blend of Pinot Noir Blanc de Noirs and Xarel·lo, giving it an elegant and distinctive character. The event concluded with words from Montserrat Moral, Governor of the Rotary District of Barcelona, who emphasized the importance of continued support for this cause, which has a direct impact on the lives of many people.
